The History Within The City: Alsancak, Konak and Kordon
Location: İzmir – City Center

Alsancak, with its charming streets, distinctive architecture, and proximity to the sea, evokes the ambiance of cities in Italy or Spain. At the heart of the area stands the iconic Clock Tower in Konak, constructed in 1901 by architect Raymond Charles Pere to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s reign. The clock, a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II, has been meticulously restored and continues to operate.
Nearby, the Kemeraltı Bazaar provides a vibrant shopping experience, seamlessly blending historical allure with modern establishments. Alsancak’s Kültürpark (Culture Park) serves as a central social hub, featuring exhibition halls, open-air theaters, an amusement park, a zoo, and numerous museums. The park, which houses over 8,000 trees and 200 plant species, is an ideal location for outdoor relaxation.
